When Storm Sandy destroyed the old Norwegian Spruce on the St. James Church lawn in 2012, it was removed and a new 20′ tall Balsam Fir was planted in its place. Hundreds turned out Thursday night for Manchester’s annual Tree Lighting ceremony to watch the new tree light up as well as sing carols and meet Santa.
The highlight of the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on Main Street in Manchester is the arrival of Santa Claus who is also known as George Ducharme, an adjunct professor at Manchester Community College. Sitting in his lap is Myles Moynihan, 14 mos, of Manchester.
