MANCHESTER — A building materials company recently purchased property on Colonial Road and plans to open for business in January or February, the company president said Thursday.
East Haven Builders Supply Inc. purchased 166 Colonial Road for $640,000, town records show. The company will employ 15 to 20 people at the business, which mainly caters to contractors, company President Antonio Rossano said.
Based in East Haven, the company also has locations in Newtown and Millwood, N.Y., and a roof and floor truss manufacturing operation in Branford, Rossano said. The business sells lumber, roofing materials, windows, doors, interior trim and kitchen cabinets.
Asked why he decided to open a location in Manchester, Rossano said, “I think the market is right for somebody competitive in that area.”
The 13,800-square-foot building was constructed in 1989 and sits on a 2.6-acre lot. The property, which is appraised by the town at $737,000, last sold in 1995 for $300,000 to Jomic Realty of East Hartford, according to town assessor’s records.
